actually this assumption is incorrect brainstorms effect has you move cards from your hand to your library, what you are doing is moving cards from your library to your library.... in the current engine when ever you close the library it autoshuffles.... when you move a card on to library, it moves...

right, if he has none it would not let you play it. well but in real magic play that wouldn't work like that. the duress should go to graveyard even if the opponent has or not noncreature cards, so as an effect, duress must have the effect moveto itself to the grave.
