Possible forums requirement - anyone agree?

Postby Seaking » Fri Aug 03, 2012 1:48 am

First, let me note- This is mostly related to the PS Vita subforum, but I understood it would not belong there.

After reading the thread on the recent thread under PS Vita - PS Vita Tools 1.06 & Vita Keys Released
I see people mentioning "could this mean possible cfw for vita?!?", I feel that this forum needs some sort of requirement for access.

Possibly a two or three question multiple answer test?
For example-
What is the most current PS Vita firmware?

A- 1.69
B- 1.67
C- 4.00
D- 6.60
E- I don't know or care I'm just here for free games.

If C or D is answered, the person should be asked to submit a letter of approval for registration, in which they describe the reason they want to join, and to prove in some way shape or form they're not 10 years old.
Or, just make them read the stickied post about the Ninja Release by DisturbedOne before they post anything; comments or topics. That alone would cut down the amount of garbage posted. It would make the next VHBL release so much smoother.
If E is answered, ban their IP. :)

Wololo- Please remind people in the blog posts related to VHBL that it will be in the forums, and not to F5 the site to death. Tell them it takes time, please. They repeatedly ask these questions. Its just spam.

I feel like I'm being a little negative here, but seriously guys, read the comments in the blog posts.

I'm just saying that I'm getting sick of the double posts and the posts lacking common sense.

Xian Nox, m0skit0, jc_gargma- I appreciate all the work you do here, and I'm glad you're here.

DisturbedOne- Thank you for your post on the ninja release, although no new members read it, at all.

Gurus, Wololo, thecobra, Davee, WTH - Without your work, none of us would be here. I truly appreciate everything you guys do. Your skills are far beyond mine, and will be until I decide to break out my psp2000 with the layer of dust behind the screen.

Okay, I understand your point, and it's exactly how I feel as well.

The forums don't have any age restrictions.
An obvious problem with this is that if you just got a Vita and you have no idea what to do with it at all, you are likely to answer wrong. Did you know what the latest PSP/PSV firmware was when you first bought your first console? I certainly didn't, nor did I know anything. I just bought it and went on a forum to read how to hack it because all I knew was that it was hackable. Had that forum asked me anything PSP-related, I would have either Google'd it, defeating the purpose of the test, or answered wrong, locking myself out. Were this the case, if my English is little to no good, I cannot write the letter.

The reason why we don't use IP bans is the ISPs recycle IPs. If you have a dynamic IP, this won't work at all, and even if you have a static IP, at one point that IP will no longer be yours.

I've seen this implemented on other forums (basically you're redirected to the forum rules page right after you sign up), but what I did, like 99.99% of the people before and after me, was simply close the tab and go straight to posting, skipping the wall of text I was presented with.

Same as me.

Thanks for your reply, Xian Nox. I see all your points and entirely agree with them.
I was just venting yesterday.
Thought I might throw some terrible ideas into the wind.

Question- Why do you guys lock threads instead of deleting them?

Say its a double topic post, for example, "BREAKING NEWS.VITA KEYS RELEASED" and "PS Vita Tools 1.06 & Vita Keys Released".
Why lock BREAKING NEWS VITA KEYS RELEASED thread instead of deleting? I understand allowing people to catch up and read that their post was locked for whatever reason, but why not delete it after they've had enough time to read it?

I don't even know what's the most current PSV firmware, should I get banned? Also anybody can google that and find out.

The message is not just for the poster of the thread, but for all users, and there is no maximum time new users may see this message and know such a topic already exists. Of course, if there is a repeated creation of the same thread a dozen times, yes, they may get deleted.

Its the same reason many posts that violate the rules are kept. Users can understand why something was locked by a moderator, which provides, for many users, a far more helpful comprehension of the rules than is gained from reading the forum rules sticky.

What we did to get a few more users to read the rules was to put in giant text a message saying WAIT DON'T GO YET ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS READ THE BOLD TEXT AND IF YOU WANT TO KNOW MORE READ THE LITTLE TEXT
and then the bold text was the basics and the small text was details on the bold rules.
