Change the DS4 battery and make it last longer

Post by natemir »

Here is a small tutorial that will help you increase the period of use of the DualShock 4 before needing to recharge it. The only negative point with the new controller from Sony over the Dualshock 3 is that the controller battery will not last more than a few hours.

In this tutorial we will change the controller battery with another one from a smartphone, which will allow us to obtain a gain of 50% more of charging capacity.

You will need:
- A knife or scissors.
- A battery (see below for battery details).
- Tape or soldering iron.
- Red and black electric wires which can be found easily in shops.

The battery type to use:
The current dualshock4 battery has 1000 mAh and 3.65 Volts, after we change to the 1500mAh battery, you will be able to get 50% extra power. You can use a 2000 mAh battery which will let you get more power but make sure it is 3.6 volts, 3.7 volts, lithium-ion, and the dimensions correspond to the origin of your PS4 controller battery.

Changing the battery:
Remove the 4 screws of your dualshock 4 to access the battery, then disconnect the red and black electric wires that are connected near the battery. Attention : cut in the precise nearest location to the battery!

Put your old battery aside and remove the borders of the two electric wires that you just cut just to get access to the conductive elements. Take a piece of black wire and a piece of red wire, remove their borders and attach them to the wires of the joystick to gain length. Do not exaggerate too much on the length in order to not make it painful closing your pad when finished.

Also remember to put a little bit of tape on your wires so that there is no possibility for the battery to disconnect when you play.

Then connect the two ends of your wires in your new battery, the red wire on the positive side and the black wire to the negative and tie it off with ribbon or make welds if you have an iron welded.

Here is some tips in order to make your dualshock4 battery last longer :
-Go to Settings and then to Controllers and decrease at maximum the volume of the sound that come from the joystick.
-In the same menu, you can also deactivate the vibration option.
-In Power Management settings, select the option Deactivate automatically Dualshock4 and "After 10 min" or "After 30 min".

Doing all these will let your dualshock4 battery last a lot longer than before.

I hope this will help, enjoy.
