@ErnieBall
That is the flash patching method I was talking about.
The E3 card reader is a Factory Service Mode dongle that allows you to enter FSM mode and install a lower firmware.
This is why I suggested the patching method because it's a lot easier and you don't have to buy a dongle.

Don't let the card reader name confuse you. I think they did that for legal reasons but the design for it was focused as a FSM dongle.

@christoffer88
Just use one of those patchers, patch your dump, restore, and install Rebug 3.55.
After that you can update to any CFW you want.

So is THIS all I need, and a MicroSD? I watched a few videos, and get the process, but I'm a bit confused still.

Also it's on 4.55 I think. The update was on some dumb Spider-man game. I haven't even turned it on since the day I wrote the OP

For the the flash patching method (the method i used and i can confirm working) this is all you need. You also need an adapter/card reader to use the MicroSD card on your pc.

I can't stress enough how important it is that you find a detailed, up to date guide/ how to, because it's a complicated process with many steps.

...

The guide i used recently got updated to use with OFW 4.65.
I can link the guide, but it's in german so you have to use a translator. (and the site is down atm, which should be fixed soon)

I definitely won't be flying blind here. I just wanted to double check with everyone who is willing to help here. Thanks so much, I'm going to do more research. :D

Ah, I wonder if Google cache has it? I've been watching videos on YouTube.

The name just hit me idk why, but ProgSkeet is for NAND, it's what I thought I needed at first. But in the OP and topic I put E3 because the sticker on the back of my PS3 indicates it's NOR from the serial. I need to check inside still to confirm it's NOR, because it's a refurbished unit from my dads friend.

Also off topic, but I use Ernie Ball strings for my Gibson haha.
