Vita Update Blockers

Post by TesseractE »

So it appears that the VitaUpdateBlocker stopped working for 3.52 on 10/24 (mid-day!). From what I’ve read, this is a known phenomenon, but I’m scratching my head as to WHY this stops working.

I’m new to the Vita/TV world, but have been 'customizing' devices since early in the PSP days. It seems like without allowing a firmware update to happen, nothing Sony does server side should have an effect while the proxy is running since the update traffic is being intercepted.

Would SKFU pr0xy still work if properly configured? I wasn't able to find a comprehensive FAQ on how to get that to work, and my tinkering with XML didn't do any good... Though even if it was set up correctly, I might not know it if it's disabled as well.

I've been wondering about the details of WHY it stops too. So far I haven't found anything that describes the process in a detailed way but I'm still digging around. If I find anything I'll let you know, but hopefully someone who is more experienced with the Vita can enlighten us. ;)

I did find some info here (yes, I know it says PS3 but it's the same place for both):
http://www.psdevwiki.com/ps3/Online_Connections
http://www.psdevwiki.com/ps3/PSN
http://www.psdevwiki.com/ps3/PSN_Handshake_Signup
http://www.psdevwiki.com/ps3/X-I-5-Ticket

The thing is, none of them describe anything in enough detail to answer our questions. When I've watched the stuff it's been able to determine to allow or deny my access with only 1 connection to get the update list xml. That makes me wonder if something else happened (1) earlier that it isn't needing to use the network to get now or (2) it is merely using a different port and not using a HTTP proxy.

Hmmm.... My thought would be to check all traffic from the PSTV next. Little late for me, and work tomorrow, but I could poke at it tomorrow night. I'm not familiar with the 'back alleys' of programming like this, but I can see what I can learn. :D
