Where/How does sony blacklist savegame exploits?

Post by wololo »

I'm sure there was an old discussion on this subject on lan.st but the only thing I could find is a discussion regarding prx blacklist.
http://lan.st/showthread.php?t=3062&page=3

In what prx are stored the "blocked" savegames, and how does the block work exactly? My question is rather: how does sony block a "range" of exploits without scr..ing up entirely the loading of a savegame for "normal" saves ?

That's just out of curiosity because a friend asked me and I wasn't able to reply.

If you need US PSN Codes, this technique is what I recommend.

"blocked" savegame IDs are stored in savedata_utility.prx.

I guess they use some kind of hashing to detect the exploited savedata. This could mean if the savedata is rewritten with a different exploit, it might work even if blacklisted.
I wanna lots of mov al,0xb

I'm pretty sure their software engineers are aware of their design flaws much more than I do.

Why do you want an exploit to work on CFW anyway

I also imagined such a thing, but maybe they go even further such as manually checking the validity of a specific area (like simply checking a string length to avoid a buffer overflow)
I mean a simple hash of public exploited savedata files would be a real joke
Then we'd just have to change some tiny things inside this exploited savedata and it'd work, can't imagine them doing something so dumb
