Did you check the link I posted earlier? The Ubuntu forum will be able to help you a lot better than I can. (I'm still sort of a novice when it comes to Ubuntu as well, although I have a newer PC so I ran into a lot less problems than you did)

You can view the Ubuntu forum from Windows. It's just a website. They will know how to fix your issue.

I'm not too sure how this goes on Ubuntu because I haven't used it much. I'm on openSUSE.
There's a program that is called "Install/Remove Software", which is a part of the configuration utilities supplied by the distribution.
On the search field I wrote "broadcom" and there were 2 packages called b43-firmware and b43legacy-firmware.
Description of the second:
b43legacy-firmware - Legacy Firmware for Broadcom bcm43xx series based PCI/PCMCIA cards
This package provides firmware required by the b43legacy WiFi Linux driver
Web site: http://www.linuxwireless.org/en/users/D ... cefirmware
Seems you need the second.
