Yea if I made the PC I need then we are talking $10,000+ >__<
but for now I just want something from this decade

my current PC is from 2005 and is decent but it makes very loud fan noise and gets very hot plus its very slow even with a fresh install of a OS

furthermore it does not have PCI-E slots and is a single core x86 celeron D at 2.93Ghz with 1GB RAM
and yes I know 2005 just barely counts as this decade ;)

if you would like I can post a screenshot of the system information

Yeah fate, more system detail would help, also a more definitive description of what you would like it to be capable of.

Looking at the specs for that Compaq, a Cpu or memory u/g would give some increase in speed, but not a lot, it supports quite low speed ddr1 only.
Switching to a lean version of linux would probably dramatically increase the speed, cost - $0 - have you considered that option ?

I know use Puppy or similar but as much as I <3 Puppy Linux I don't want to use it as a Main OS
but anywho I will be buying JD's PC and then once it gets here I will spend a few weeks installing Arch Linux

I've done it before on this computer but did not think it was worth my time on such a old PC
(installed and configured KDE + KDM but stopped there)

Problem solved then, a replacement was probably the best way to go. Happy new PC !
