ok you guys seem to be thinking I have money >__>
let me give you an example, you see that NVidia card for $40? well thats out of my budget.......

so yes I would like to build a new PC but I can't and no amount of "you should invest" is going to help
I'm simply at a point in life where all my(not much to begin with) money is going somewhere else
where? well thats for me(and a few others) to know and for you to hopefully find out

(not anytime soon tho cause there is lots of work to be done :3)

Not true. Nvidia might have more stable drivers in Windows, but in Linux, AMD/ATI has better drivers. Nvidia didn't even start supporting it until recently.

ok since it seems they will not be taking it back I figure fudge it might as well use it

so I have put the Ageia PhysX PCI in and Windows XP recognizes the new hardware but it cannot find the drivers when I tell it to check online

so after a quick google I found "PhysX_7.11.13_SystemSoftware.exe" but if I try to run it it just says its not a valid win32 application

BTW im trying it on XP first just to see if it works
oh and considering I don't have a GFX card will it even do anything?

EDIT:
ok I think I got the driver but how to test? and again will it even work on its own?

EDIT2:

I looked up what PPU I have and its a "BFG PhysX"

DMTea wrote:You'll need to find out what your Motherboard supports. PCi graphics cards are expensive not because of age but of the connector it uses. Same with DDR1 Ram under 400MHz is more expensive than DDR3 which is the norm now.

Amazon/newegg have decent prices for parts although I'd suggest buying parts locally as shipping may defeat the purpose of upgrading.

You might be able to put the Pentium 4 H/T 3.2 - 3.4GHz into your motherboard I used to own a P4 box myself.

Oh and if your Motherboard ONLY supports DDR1/2 it's time for an upgrade. Example DDR1 Peaks at 400MHz or so transfer rate so whilist you may have 2-4GB it's going to feel slow because of the slower nature of the Ram. Your motherboard is the basis for your upgrades so investing in something that will take on next gen CPUs is always good. Most custom built quadcore towers can be had locally for 250$ no problem, although being last generation quad core it's really all you need as far as CPU power goes. Single core boxes bottleneck lots IMO especially something as old as a 2002 P4 lol.

OHYA!!!! 32 Bit operating systems only utilize 3.5GB of Ram so installing 4GB is redundant as the system won't be able to use the full 4GB. I doubt DDR1 OEM motherboards support 4GB but don't waste your money!
Made a slight correction.

Yay still haven't bought anything!!!!

anywho how does this look to you fine folk?
http://www.ebay.com/itm/E1-DELL-PRECISI ... 51b063fc7d

the thing that bothers me is that it says dedicated GFX but doesn't tell you what it is :/
but at least it has a 64 bit dual core CPU and it will almost certainly have PCI-E slots ^__^

You haven't said why you want to upgrade, depending on your ambitions, it may not be a realistic expectation to achieve what you want at the price you can afford. ??
