Some other cool stuff:

NEXUS 7 does PC game streaming quite well.
Splashtop is an amazing Android app that allows for powerful tablets and smartphones to do this.

Also don't forget about the PlayStation Now. (Nexus 7 will most likely get in on that action.)

Comparison by a gamer For gamers.

Everyone knows by now that the Nexus 7 is one of the Best if not the best Android Tablet for the money.
At $270 for the best available model (32GB) it is one of the most inviting tablets out there.
So I'm not going to make this review very long.
I will only point out in what way it is better then the Shield.

With it's superb quality screen and hardware specs both CPU and GPU it's still one of the fastest tablets on the market.
And yes although there are more powerful tablets out there like the 'Kindle Fire HDX 7' at the same price. Nexus in my opinion is still much better.

I will explain why I chose the Nexus over both the KF HDX and the NVIDIA Shield:

Kindle Fire HDX 7 simply wouldn't cut it for any real Android user since the Amazon user interface is very limited.
Unless you flash a custom rom I suppose)
And the tablet size is just not that great looking for a 7in tablet, comparing it to the Nexus 7 much thinner design it looks quite ugly.
That's all I gotta say about the Kindle Fire.

NVIDIA Shield I was quite impressed by the Shield upon it's announcement and was planing on buying one.
But after watching video reviews on it I realized 1 HUGE FLAW. And that flaw is the Shield is always STUCK in Landscape mode.
Not literally but you will find yourself using it in that position MOST. Because using it in portrait mode is quite a task.
Watch this video you will see what I mean: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_67L0X79 ... page#t=265

It can't detach from the controller, because the controller is the device itself that houses everything in it.
Making it not so portable as it is being advertized. And if you carry it in a case that only adds to it's bulk size.
So yeah those were the BIG things I said NO THANKS to. And that was the big deal breaker for me in choosing the Nexus 7 Over the Shield.

But because I liked the idea of a controller on a tablet.

I just used a detachable one. Making the Nexus 7 a much better Shield then the shield itself.

This controller is made for 5" phones so a small modification was needed:

I just extended 'THE CLAW' as I call it. :)
And now it feels like a smaller version of a XBOX 360 controller.
With the gameplay of the NVIDIA SHIELD.
And because the controller is very light it adds very little weight making playing Nexus 7 with the controller for a long time comfortable.
I've been playing, PSP, Nintendo DS, PS1, GBA, N64 and others and that's just the games via emulators.
It also works great with: Dead Trigger 1 and 2, GTA SA, Asphalt 8 and a ton more games.

So there you have it.
For the same price (Just about) you can have the Nexus 7 and use it like a SHIELD for games with controls.
And when you wanna play games by using the touch screen ONLY or in portrait mode you simply detach it.

This controller is only $26 on Amazon and it works without any additional drivers. (Just search: 'ipega bluetooth controller')
Simply pair it and it will work with many games and all emulators.

I can't recommend this combo enough.
Having the nexus 7 and this controller is VERY FUN.

If you have any questions or wanna see if some game you like works well with this controller and the Nexus 7. Ask me.
CHEERS!

Maybe we can subtitute Nexus 7 (2nd gen) with Tegra note 7, in spite of having low build quality, low resolution, lower RAM (1 gb), Tegra note has quite a nice FPS & benchmark for gaming purpose (thanks to tegra 4 & its low resolution)& slightly lower price :)

Yeah I think that tablet is quite nice.
But owning an official google device means Nexus 7 will get the latest Android OS first.
And that is a defender bonus.

But yeah for the specs and the price that Nvidis Tablet is great.

I like the SHIELD.
Just not the first gen so much.
If NVIDIA is smart they will probably release a 2nd model.
If and when they do. I will probably pick one up.

In the end it's every gamers personal opinion.

I just see the NEXUS 7 (2nd GEN) as a much more superior device do to several HUGE factors.
1.Built quality
2.It looks very nice (ALLOT more better then it looks on Videos or images.)
3.AMAZING 7.02" IPS screen with an AWESOME resolution of 1920x1200 (Gaming, watching and Surfing ROCKS on this.)
4.It's a TABLET
If you ever get one chances are you will LOVE it. (I enjoy mine way more then I thought I would.)

I suggest you try both and see what device you like better.

If you are able to use AMAZON I suggest doing that.
With them you can return any product with full refund for any reason.

hey DG :). Well I can say from owning a Shield Portable, and seeing that controller hooked up to a phone (despite how nice it is), cannot touch the Shield experience in general. There's nothing else even like the NSP on the Market right now, it's currently out of production, and brand new ones are now going for double what they were about a month a go. I saw somebody post that they contacted Nvidia, Nvidia said that the Shield Portable isn't going anywhere, and that it will be returning with at least the Tegra X1 (if nothing else...I have no idea). That would be awesome if true. A Shield Portable 2 isn't necessary at this moment imo, but an NSP 1.5 would be very nice! I'm also very excited about the upcoming Shield Android home console I've heard about.

Edit: I forgot to point out that I do think your preferred setup has its own set of advantages. And after re-reading my post, it came across as sounding like my opinion was fact. To each their own. :)
