It is a bit strange that the "menu" and "config" folder are on your memory stick root. Those folder should be inside the "hbl" folder.

Other than that, make sure that you are using HBL for the Patapon exploit. Maybe it is a good idea to start fresh by removing the HBL files from the memory stick, redownloading HBL and putting it on again. On the memory stick root there should only be the "hbl" folder and the "h.bin" file.

This happened to me one time. I have backed up the important contrnt of MS. I suggest : Backup-->Reformat-->Content back ( ensure also that hbl is correctly placed, details in spoiler)[spoiler]

Do you have the newest Patapon savedata?
If not, try downloading.

that is what sticks out to me, if they are not in the right place then hbl doesnt know where to find them and cannot load

Maybe we should add more "gracefully fail" code...
however, if the savedata, or the h.bin are incorrectly placed, there's pretty much nothing HBL can do...
but for other missing files, we should be able to log something and quit to the XMB I think...
If you need US PSN Codes, this technique is what I recommend.

In most cases I think this is already done. I mean what are the two most important cases?
- hbl.bin not found -> message in debug log and exit
- config file for firmware not found -> message in debug log and exit
So those are already handled. The only improvement I see would be printing a message on the display.

But really, how hard is it to install HBL? Extracting a zip file to the memory stick root and not touching/renaming/moving anything is not hard. Sadly I guess we will never hear about how the OP managed to overcome the problem (look at his last time online).
