PSP with 400 Gb storage confirmed

Post by rsn8887 »

I just confirmed that my PSP3000, running CFW-6.60 PRO C Fix 3 works with 400 Gb. AFAIK this is the first such demonstration.

I am using a white dual-microSD-to-Memorystick adapter, and two 200 Gb Sandisk microSDs, all from amazon.com. The 200 Gb microSD recently dropped in price to approximately $90, still a bit expensive.

I have already filled it up until only 60 Gb is left, and everything is loading just fine.

I use categories lite plugin to split my content into multiple categories (A-F, G-N etc.) to speed up loading the directories.

The PSP formatted the stick just fine using the "format memory stick" option in settings. It showed 360 Gb usable. However, from experience I remembered that the PSP sometimes doesn't format well, so I connected the PSP to USB and used the free tool "guiformat" on Windows 10 to re-format the stick with quick format and FAT32, just to make sure it really was properly formatted.

If they are based on the latest M33 CFW, yes.

Thus it should include ME & LME, maybe PRO; but not some of the GEN CFWs.

Where the heck would one find a 256/512/1024GB MicroSDXC Card anyways? I can barely trust the internet enough to find an Dual MicroSDXC to MS Pro Duo Adapter that supports that much data.

I doubt they exist yet. Last I remember I was amazed when I found a 256 GB microSD. I don't even want to think about how expensive a 1 TB microSD card would be if/when they first hit the market...

Is it really that important to have all the PSP library on the device any more ? Most of us have Android phones with OTA function which you can connect extremal flash memory ( if 128 GB micro sd card isn't enough or expensive for you) buy a few 64 GB flash memory with micro USB connection, keep your games there and send to PSP's ISO folder with Superbeam application even where there isn't any network around.
PSP-1000 6.20 16 GB Pro C-2
PSP-go 6.20 32 GB LME 2.3 White
PSP-go 6.60 24 GB Pro C-2 / LME 2.3 Black
PS Vita Slim 8 GB 3.60 Henkaku
PS TV 3.60 Henkaku 1 TB Samsung Story

Oh no! I'd say it is very important to have 400 GB in the PSP directly. In fact, there's nothing more convenient and fun than a PSP with 400 Gb worth of stuff on it without the hassle of transferring on demand from another device.

Imagine all the good PS1 games, all the large ScummVM games (1.8.0 for PSP was just released), all the other emulators including even the cd-based games, and on top of that the full collection of all worthwhile PSP titles and minis without slowdown from .cso encryption, all in one device without ever swapping anything.

In fact the PSP beats down pretty much all modern smartphones in terms of storage space and convenience. AFAIK smartphones are JUST KNOW starting to support dual microsd.

The only minor annoying thing is that with such large storage on the PSP, you pretty much have to resort to use the categories_lite plugin to sort your stuff on the PSP into folders, because loading a single folder with so much contained in it takes several minutes. But with categories lite and a few folders such as "PSP A - F", "PS1 A - F", etc.

You mentioned OTA. I tried to use that on my Android device, and honestly, who wants to have this annoying cable hanging from their phone? And then connect another memory device to that cable, and then connect that wirelessly to the psp and transfer stuff? That sounds like a huge inconvenience. How long does the transfer take? Do you have to have both your phone and PSP out at the same time? I'd say why not simply put it all on the PSP to begin with. And in addition, even with OTA it will still be a bit difficult to find a good solution for 400 Gb or more, because you still need to find a very large usb stick, preferably one that is not bulky.
