Fat16 or fat32 for psp memory sticks?
Fat16 or fat32 for psp memory sticks?
I have a 64gb micro sdxc but my adapter is not here yet. I wanted to just use my PC to format the MS so I can load everything on now and then just plug it into my psp once the adapter get here. After looking online I have seen some different things regarding what format to choose for my micro sdxc. Should I do it in fat32 or fat16

Since it's over 4GB, you might have troubles formatting it to and reading it as FAT16. I'm not entirely sure, I just use FAT32 with the MS Speedup option turned on under ME. Works quick enough for me.

I'm using a Dual Micro SD Adapter for two 32GB Micro SDHCs for a nice 64GB. Though with how little I use it, anymore, I might go with something smaller and use the carts in something else.tr4g- wrote:which MS are you using out of curiosity

Gotcha. I went with one 64gb for a possible 128 if I want in the future.TecXero wrote:I'm using a Dual Micro SD Adapter for two 32GB Micro SDHCs for a nice 64GB. Re: Fat16 or fat32 for psp memory sticks?
Ok, well my adaptor has arrived and my psp will not read the full 64gb. First of all, the PSP itself cannot format the MS. It prompts you to format the MS once is it in the psp, but when you actually click format, it then says there is no MS inserted. So instead I format the MS via the USB adapter it came with, in my computer. I used a 3rd party program since windows will not format a fat32 larger than 32 GBs. I used a fat32formatter to format it to 64gb in fat32. Then the psp cannot recognize it and that you have to format it which doesnt work. But, I have formated it into fat32 for 27 gbs (32) and the PSP will recognize it. What am I doing wrong here? Is there a specific cluster size I should set while formatting on my computer?
edit: been messing around with this stick and adapter for a while now. Still can't figure this out

Re: Fat16 or fat32 for psp memory sticks?
I've used 3 different fat32formatters and none have worked so far. They all format perfectly in the PC, but then the PSP cannot recognize it. Could this be the adapter? I couldn't find any other adapters that actually say they support 64gb, but apparently everyone here has tried successfully the cr5400 adaptors which also "dont support 64gb." Does anyone have any insight? I'm at my wits end and quite honestly pretty upset this isn't working

What Class is your Micro SDHC cart? It probably needs to be Class 4.

Re: Fat16 or fat32 for psp memory sticks?
Official firmwares have different MS size limits, depending on the version. It's 32GB for OFW 6.60. CFWs have this limit removed.
It looks like the sd card-adapter incompatibility to me, because asking Google "Is the PSP capable to accept a 64GB microsd" shows that it indeed is.
