so when you turn it on the screen stays black but only sometimes?
And when the screen does work you can scroll around to things but not press x on them?

If the above two statements are correct then is sound like your x button its self doesn't work and the screen connection has come loose.

to fix it you could try disassembling your PSP and cleaning out what ever dust/dirt is in it and cleaning the contacts with rubbing alcohol. while it is taken apart you should also see it the film like connection for the screen has come loose in any part and attempt to stick it down again. There are many videos on youtube to help you tear it apart. I have taken my psp apart a few times for cleaning.

I am not responsible for any damage that you cause while taking it apart.
