PlayStation's pride and joy at this time is they're jewel "PSN" and they will and are required to protect this system at any and all cost, as its they're biggest money making product
lets start on a train of thought shall we::
hbl, it seems like a harm less little thing, no access to psn or any major system tools, wrong, with the right tools it gains kernel accesses
kernel accesses have access to system tools and psn settings and files, but!, you say, whats wrong with that?? psn is very easy to manipulate with the right settings and probing can get you alot of information sony and most of the psn community doesn't want you to be able to access..
what information could a harmless psp do you may be thinking, well that is a dangerous way to ask i will reply, you should ask what information cant this supper dangerous device git you
it can git you info such as other users emails and they're psn passwords, as well as some more, i wont go into details for this
this is with just a scratched up beaten psp out of a pawn shop,or even out of a trashcan.
ok that is just the psp and its very limited psn store witch is limited to psp stuff
now lets look at the big brother, the ps3 witch up till the ps4 had the biggest access to the psn store and its utilities software and user base,
how many know that several of the user info hacks back in 2011 were done though ps3 access points to psn...i dowt most of them had anything to do with actual ps3's but with spoofing pc's into psn as ps3's, trust me its not as hard to do as you may think...
and this is dangerous
this is the view many non programer CEOs and investors of Sony view the psn and it being hacked...
they dont wont any more legal problems then they already have and are required by law in many country's to keep these holes in the system blocked and patched
its sad that so many people will be so destructive with theses methods, but they will steal your information and give it out with the thoughts of being some kind of hero witch is weird but true
though most psp hackers don't do this, its something they can do
its amazing what you can manage to do with very limited skills, Google and a few days to dedicate to working on something, im actually scared of what i saw a college student do to demonstrate this...only as a poc for a job interview in revers-engineering and handheld hacking but its very unnerving that he demonstrated the hole process in less then 5 min...on a device that he said can be considered profitably disposable at this time with all the tools and information being on the memory-card leaving the traceable device as a throwaway/ or even destroyable part of the process
its not that sony is trying to stop people from enjoying the systems and what they can do but protect your accounts and money by patching theses holes that can be used in very bad ways
