I assume he was asking about an actual debug station which some people like keeping on OFW.
Who knows what he was on maind. I like have backup of any if can dawngrade ,install ,firmware etc - but im colector and use orginal and ... games. And PS3 is easy now and for 10 years to hack and super easy to get CFW and roll to OFW. I person on that kind machines use CFW ,i get OFW only on machines who can by any method to hack or have any CFW. Or in Developer Machines in my colection then i have example PS3 and keep it on First ever made on Dev machine OFW - for timemachine and like was first to use when was relesed
But on PS3 is like on PSP backing to OFW is easy - backing install like normal USB version of Update on PS3 witch OFW file and install and done
