New Antispam mod, please report any issue

Post by wololo »

I hate phpBB MODs, but I hate spambots even more. I added a mod that gives the moderators and myself some support against spam bots, and hopefully it will be useful. If you run into issues (can't login, can't post, stuff disappears, whatever...) please let me know either by PM, or by email (wagic.the.homebrew@gmail.com)

And I thought there was a new Moderator
Mod and Moderator are two terms that always mix me up!

We had loads of problems with bots on our forums.. we found just adding questions to the applications stopped alot of them .. just simple stuff like type the second word on line 3 backwards ;)

Over at PSPKing we also have some spambots, but our moderators are pretty active and ban them when they see one of the spamposts.
Its actually working pretty good.

We ban 20 spambots on average per day (more than 5000 just this year), I am wondering if PSPKing is seeing the same type of traffic? The mods here ae really getting tired of doing that type of cleanup job, and I understand them :)

I have noticed the increased number of spambots too. I usually end up reporting 3-4 daily

Best thing to do is either find a plugin that cross-references new registrations with Project Honey Pot and Stop Forum Spam, or write it yourself if there's no such thing for PHPBB

I used a plugin like that along with custom Q&A and never had a bot get through again after that. Then I banned anything that got caught from the server through lighttpd but that was overkill :P

I really like this new plugin, just ban the bot in one click and all his posts are removed
